Just a thought - I have not got the original 1861 Census - so it could be transcribed wrongly.
I have just a transcription off a well known Family History Site.

Just looked at the History of Whitrope Tunnel & it was built between 1859 &62. My ancestor was born c1840 so well before that tunnel was built.

Hmm - I think this might be a case of scrambled information making its way into the transcription on Ancestry.

The page image on Scotlandspeople has her p/o/b as just "Dumfriesshire Langholm". I suspect the words "Wpe Tunnel Cottages" have accidentally been pasted into the middle of the word "Langholm" by the transcriber.
