America to UK passengers-advice needed
« on: Thursday 28 April 16 22:25 BST (UK) »
Hello. Please can someone point me in the right direction?

Trying to find a record for James and Catherine (Kate) Oneill returning to the UK from America 1900's

This is what I have so far: They were both Irish, went to New York 1890, married in Illinois. Had a child, Annie 1892 born in California. Thats it until they appear on 1901 census in Scotland with Annie age 9.

So I have a gap between 1892-1901, and can't find a record of them leaving America. Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.

What ages were James and Catherine ?   They could have come back thru Canada either - passages were a little cheaper that way.

Its mainly the subscription sites which would have UK return/incoming passenger lists.  Find my Past do periodically have £1 for one months - so that's one offer worth looking out for.

hi both
ancestry has incoming passenger lists to Britain , find my past only has incoming lists for the period of 1858-1870 all the others are for outgoing passengers .
ancestry does do a months free subscription , but make sure you cancel before the end of the period .

Hi. Thank you for the info. Very helpful. I will now look into the ancestry route.

Do you have a town or county in California where Annie was born?  Depending on the location, there may be city directories indicating how long they lived there.

Hi all.
Trevor, I joined ancestry last night, and have not located the family returning to the UK yet. Need to spend a few more hours on that I think.☺
shellyesq - I don't have anything else ref Annie, only the birthplace  California taken from the 1901census living in Scotland.
