Married east Chailey, I cannot find any reference to his parents or family. I have searched as many records for this area I can find. If anyone has any ideas, this would be much appreciated.
Thanks Brad

hello and welcome to Rootschat. have you seen the actual marriage record? Guessing it would be mid - late 1820s, it should give names of witnesses and the parishes of residence of bride and groom. If there is a Ridley witness it is likely to be a family member. Parish of residence at marriage could give a clue, but it is not necessarily where the parties were born, they only have to live there for three weeks prior to marriage.

Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Thanks Lizziel

I have a copy of the cert, from the family book, not very clear. Although I am not new to discovery of my family tree, I am not as skilled as I would like. I spend hours on the net, going around in circles. I feel that there HAS to be a link somewhere, that takes Richard from a stand alone figure to a real connection to the whole of the Ridley family in general. Any assistance or pointers will be received with gratitude. I now stand with two arms of the family, although not complete, but desperate to make the connection. Many thanks Brad Ridley

As he was buried on 3 Jan, he is unlikely to have had his 40th birthday during 1838, so if age at death is accurate it makes his year of birth about 1797.

There is a National archive record for a Richard Ridley of Chailey

he seems to rent a piece of land in 1835

obit for William RIDLEY.....from South Australia...born Sussex...
(his age is 81 on index...b. ~ 1831)

If this is William RIDLEY christened 1841 in Longford Tasmania, youngest of three brothers christened, then Edward, Jesse and William born in Sussex?
