William Gould 1790 - 1871, his Wives & Children - Updated Request
« on: Friday 29 April 16 18:13 BST (UK) »
Updated Request. Thank you Capetown for your information, fills many gaps. Looks as though poor Hannah Stiles died as a result of birth of her 10th child in 22 years.
My record of the marriage of John Bevington to Ann Castles (Cassells) at Claines in 1820 looks wrong. The date is probably about right, but Ann & the children born around then were all at WSE. 25 miles from Claines. No info found on John's birth (1798?) apart from burial at WSE in 1833 age 35. Any advice much appreciated

It's a rather complicated Jigsaw puzzle of where various children associated with William Gould came from and I'd appreciated any comments or corrections to my deductions as well as any additions.
William was possibly baptised on 3 Feb 1790 at St Lawrence Church Evesham, the son of Samuel & Sarah Gould.

A church record from Weston Sub Edge Gloucestershire has a marriage of William Gould widower to an Ann Bevington widow on 29 Dec 1836.
The 1841 census has them at Weston Sub Edge together with children Joshua b 1829; Alfred b 1831; Caroline b 1838. There are also Isabella Bevington b 1826 and John Bev. b 1831.

In 1851 William was a widower at WSE with Alfred b 1830 and daughter Caroline b 1838

There is a burial record for a William Gould at WSE on 17 Mar 1871. His wife Ann was buried on 27 Aug 1845 at WSE.

In addition the Weston Sub Edge Parish Register, has a baptism on 1 Mar 1818 of David Bevington, mother Ann Castles, a spinster. David was my great X2 Grandfather and this led me to find out more about his origins.
His mother Ann was possibly baptised on 23 Sept 1792 at Mickleton which is about 3 miles from WSE. She married a John Bevington, possibly at Clains near Worcester on 3 Jan 1820. As well as David, she had six children with John: Joshua 1820; Isabella 1823; and John 1831. In addition she had an earlier John in 1825; Emanuel in 1822 and Ann 1831. These all died before 1841.

John Bevington was buried on 12 Dec 1833 in WSE. and his wife Ann subsequently married William Gould a widower as noted in 1836 at WSE

Now where did children Alfred; Joshua b abt 1829 & Caroline noted in the 1841 census come from? William Gould was married to someone before Ann and Hannah Styles appears to fit. Hannah was baptised on 4 Mar 1792 at WSE and married a William Gould at the age of 16 on 6 Feb 1809 at Willersey, a couple of miles from WSE.

WSE Parish records have William & Hannah Gould as parents of a Joshua Bap. 1827 and Alfred in 1830. Willersey Parish records also have them as parents of Eliza, Bap. 1810. Eliza probably married and left her parents before the 1841 census.
Hannah was buried on 14 Aug 1832 at WSE, leaving William to marry Ann in 1836.

That leaves Caroline b 1838 to account for - the WSE parish records have her baptised on 31 Jul 1837, parents William & Anne.

So that just about seems to complete the jigsaw puzzle of where the various children originated. However my question is that after having Eliza at the age of 16 in 1810, there is a big gap before Hannah Gould nee Stiles has her next child Joshua in 1827. Have I got something wrong in my deductions? Note that publicly available Family Tree information on Ancestry appears to contain anomalies and has no mention of Hannah Styles.

On Freebmd there is a Caroline GOULD birth registered September Qtr 1837 Evesham District - which covers Weston Subedge - along with a number of Gould births etc for the following years.

From 1931 - This is now Worcestershire not Gloucestershire

Hi. Just for your interest the Thomas Gould Bevington / Sarah Field (m)1831. Weston Subedge, you have listed, were my 2x Grt. Grandparents. At their marriage an Ann Gould Bevington was a witness.
He died 1875 aged 68 therefore born (c) 1808. Census has St.Martins Worcester as birth place but no record of this. I've been chasing this guy for 30 years so if you hear of any info' on Thomas I would love you for ever! Mike.
