Looking For Patrick McGreal
« on: Saturday 30 April 16 03:33 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information whatsoever about Patrick McGreal who, according to the 1901 Census, was born about 1841 in Co. Leitrim. He married Anne McLaughlin of Co. Cavan and had at least two daughters, Anne (b. 1863 in Co. Leitrim) and Mary (b. 1866 in Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim).

I have found very little about this family and would appreciate any leads anyone might have.
McGreal, McLaughlin in Co. Leitrim, Ireland.
Turner, Webb, Wilson, Cooper, Gilbert, Nadin, Repton, all in the Burton-Upon-Trent vicinity.

Hi
His parents may be Patrick and Anne McGreal from Cornagulliah.
FindMyPast has two daughter Margaret and Catherine having searches made on the 1841-1851 censuses presumably for pension purposes.

Patrick(yours is also charged with being drunk in 5.3. 1888 at Tullylar?,Carrick on Shannon )

Thank you Ciderdrinker. You were helpful with a completely unrelated question I had about another family in England. Where did you find the information about the incident in 1888? There were a number of Patrick McGreals in the area at the time, but if there is a way to positively identify this as being the correct one it would add an interesting nugget to the overall story. Is there any more detail available - age at the time, outcome of a trial, etc?

Thanks for checking in with this Ciderdrinker. This appears to be a different Patrick McGreal. My Patrick lived in a very small area called Cornagella (I've found a dozen variations on the spelling of this place name), which is about four or five miles northwest of Slievenakilla. The Patrick you had found is almost certainly in the same extended family, possibly a cousin (and about the same age), but I have identified him as a completely different person.

I am also looking for any information in respect of my Great Great Grandfather, Patrick ‘Michael’ McGreal McGrail, born in 1851 and died in Carrick on Shannon in 1899

His son, Patrick McGreal, was born in 1872
when he was married to Bridget Gilleeney

He later married Briget Gavin

His father was James McGreal McGrail (1820-1881) and his mother, Margaret (1820-1880)

Thank you

I can't find records to match your information.
I see a Patrick McGreal death in Carrick on Shannon in 1899 but his wife was Mary and the only Patrick McGreal birth in 1872 in Ireland also in Carrick on Shannon father was Francis.

Where did you find the records?
