Barratt Family Sidmouth 1841
« on: Sunday 01 May 16 00:26 BST (UK) »
Would it be possible for someone to look up the Barratt family in Sidmouth in 1841. I have a Jessey Barratt who married George Calland-Scoble on 25th March 1841. Her father is named as John Barratt, shoemaker. Witnesses were John Barratt, Ann Barratt and William B Barratt.

Many thanks

Hi had to go to the 1851 census to possibly find the names mentioned above, firstly the baptism of Jessey Barratt was Jessy Barrett 22nd August 1819 Sidmouth Father John occ Shoemaker Mother Mary, in 1851 possibly her father:-

John Barratt 69 Widower occ Shoemaker Master employing 3 men b Sidmouth
Ann 38 Single/Daughter occ Shoe Binder b Sidmouth
Ann 93 Widow/Mother b Whimple
Residing at Church Street, Sidmouth
Census Ref HO107/1864/427/2

In 1841 census this looks to be the Mother Ann:-

William Barrett 83 occ Independent
Ann 83
Residing at March, Sidmouth
Census Ref HO107/208/ 9/15/ 24

Thank you so much that looks like my family. After many years researching I am off to Sidmouth and Exmouth this week. My research on Jessey had concentrated on her husband's family so it's great to know where she lived. I have read that there is a Barratt corner in the graveyard so I will search them out.
 Thank you again.

Mr Barratt the bootmaker of Church Street, Sidmouth, gets a mention, along with his father that died in 1850, in the book by Peter Orlando Hutchinson, 'A New Guide to Sidmouth'
