McNie/Nicol parish records
« on: Sunday 01 May 16 12:25 BST (UK) »
I am stuck
I have a John McNIe (1791) and Janet Nicol (1785/87) getting married at St Ninian's on 17 May 1817.
The have 7 children, all born in Alva, Stirling.  1818-1833.  Jean, James, Janet, David, Elizabeth, JOHN, and Mary.
In the census
1841 John was in Alva Stirling as a Woolen Dyer born in Scotland
1851 John was in Alva Stirling as a Chelsea Pensioner born in Kincardine Perthshire
1861 John was in Alva Stirling as a Labourer born in Thornhill Perthshire

Their child John born in 1831 is my direct descendant.

I am not sure where to go to find out about John and Janet.

Thank you for your time
Kathy

My ancestor John (b 18 Jan 1831) marries in Renfrewshire. in 1856.

Hi Kathy ,

Do you have their death certificates(parents names) ?
There might be military records if John(senior) was in the army.

Hi Ev

I found a John McNie that dies in 1861 in Alva Stirling.
Father James Mcnie and mother maiden name Fisher, I can't make out her first name.

Kathy

Thank you Monica

Unfortunately there is no Janet among them.
I have had this happen before, only to eventually find them elsewhere.

Janet states her birth year on the different census as 1791, 1787 and 1785.

This definitely sounds like her family.

Thank you for your time

Kathy
