Help? Death registered in Castlederg
« on: Sunday 01 May 16 18:24 BST (UK) »
This death was registered in Castlederg - but what is the other word - looks like it starts with an 'L'?

Is this a place in Tyrone?  Many thanks.....!

The townland is Lystimore (also called Listymore) which is in Ardstraw civil parish.

You can use the following site to find townlands, etc. in Ireland. In this case I put in Castlederg as the Poor Law Union (usually same as registration district) then scrolled down the list.

High,
Aghadowey is correct. Is this your man? http://apps.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar_IE/willsSearchResultsDetails.aspx
Just enter the name and put Listymore in the "Full Abstract" position, then select "search"

Thank you - that is the man!

But I'm not sure if it helps me! (aagh!)

My grandmother was a Martha Pollock - married Andrew Nutt at Glendermott 1st Presbyterian Church on 10 Jan 1866.  Her father is listed as George Pollock. (in 1901 Census (Gortnaskey) Andrew was 81 - eldest son was John 32 - and Martha had already died 1893 - aged 45)

The only Martha Pollock that I've found a birth certificate for was a Martha Bell Pollock - father George Pollock - Castlewarren.  Mother Sarah Pollock. Baptised on the 19th May 1947 at Donagheady Church of Ireland!?

Found the Marriage announcement for a Sarah and George Pollock - he, from Castlewarren - she, from Curryfree - father Archibald.  Also married at Glendermott Presbyterian - 4th May 1846. They go on to have a ton of kids and then emigrate to Canada.

However - there are at least 2 George Pollocks in Castlewarren - (Vestrymen record) - Big George and George (farmer's son).  There is a George Pollock dies 1877 (aged 84) - with a Robert Pollock at his death.  A Margaret Pollock (spinster) dies 1877 (aged 72) with a Sarah J. Pollock at her death - and then a Sarah Pollock dies in 1889 (widow) aged 89 at Listymore - son Charles Pollock! (the one I started the post with....)

So how do I figure out which George Pollock was her father?  And although I can believe that the rest of the family went to Canada (and that might be why my grandfather (not the eldest son) was motivated to go there too) I'm just not sure?

Where do you even go looking for a birth certificate - which would give me the mothers maiden name....

I always think I've looked at all the possibilities - and am learning so much from you guys and your amazing wealth of knowledge! Thanks....

Do you mean 1847? This was not a birth certificate that you found- see below

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so before that date there were no birth certificates. For earlier years you need to search for church records of a baptisms but not all church's records are complete and for those that do survive not all are online.

You are quite correct #aghadowey it was the baptism record from the church. Cheers.
