John DAVIDGE born 24th feb 1752 Bruton Somerset

Hi Somerset.
Can anyone shed light on what happened to this fellow or where he went after his birth 1752 .
His father was RICHARD DAVIDGE .
any help as to where he went would be great.

Lamyatt is a stones throw from Bruton and there is a 1781 marriage Sarah Squires and John Davidge they have a son also John two years later, a possibility for your man maybe

Hi, no occupation listed for him on any of the baptisms of his children.The wife died in 1826 buried Lamyatt but no burial for him listed. The only other possible John, is the Maperton one not a million miles away from Bruton, but further than Lamyatt, he died aged 38 in 1792 , no Bruton marriages or baptisms.

There is a John DAVIDGE married to Maria DREWETT on the 24th July 1831
at Bath St James ( parish Register) Found him on FreeReg.
This would be your John's son I think.

Hi Geoff.
Thanks for that ,my problem is that my lot hail from SHEFFIELD and my JOHN DAVIDGE on his marriage entry is down as BOLTON LANCASTER ,but we cannot find his birth reg anywhere .
Several years have passed since i started searching for this man to no avail.
Our thought's are that he was a papermaker ,so he would have to have done an apprenticeship.
I am a direct descendent of this guy and cannot get past him .
If i could find the right JOHN a papermaker it would make a lot of people worldwide very happy.

Is he the John Davidge from Bolton marrying Diana Hattersley in 1788 and then did they have a son in Bury in 1792? If you can confirm this it would be helpful. Thanks

Yes that's the one ,we just cannot pinpoint where he came from ,we may be flogging a dead horse ,but i will try anything now to find him
