richard Gilbert Cornwell
« on: Saturday 07 May 16 14:36 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help me or point me in the right directions.
The story goes as followed. My great great grandfather Richard Gilbert born 1852 Cornwell( as stated in his obit) he came to South Australia 1876. ( found shipping records of him with wife plus one child).
His first wife Elizabeth nee Nancarrow  died in January 1884 Moonta, they had 3 children together in SA ( from BDM index). After he married again to Elizabeth Davey and they had 7 children together (from SA BDM index)
In Richard’s Obit all the living children from both marriages are stated. And in Elizabeth obit( second wife) the children that were alive at the time of her death from both marriages were stated, it also states that she was married in  1881, and if that was the case Richard was still with his first wife.
My query is 1) I can’t find any record of the second marriage.
                      2) how do I find information regarding Richard life in Cornwell.

Kind regards
Sam

www.freebmd.org.uk has a marriage in 1873 in Redruth Cornwall

If  you invest in the marriage cert you,ll be able to narrow down the DOB for Elizabeth as there is a selection to choose from.

The opc site you can have a rummage around in will also link to census records so you could trace both families back further - associated projects

the marriage hasn't yet been transcribed for the opc database, but the banns have. The marriage was 18 Sep 1873 in Illogan, both otp.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01hl1/

There are a couple of Elizabeth Nancarrows in Illogan of a similar age to Richard, but the one with father George is still unmarried in 1881, so the one with parents John & Mary is a possible, but marriage details needed to be sure as she could have moved into the parish after the 1871 census.
