This may be a bit unorthodox, but Donna I don't have ancestry.com and I think you were looking for information on some relatives of mine.  So I tracked you down to this website.  Albertina and John from the Warren area.  email me: (*)

I think the Randalstown to Ballymena area is a good place to look for Raineys.

In my Ewing family of Coolsythe, there is a tree which has a William Rainey b c1835 of Randalstown married to a Betty McKelvie. Betty is believed to be the sister of my 4x gt grandmother Mary McKelvie who married John Ewing of Coolsythe. I am not sure about those dates for William Rainey. I believe Betty was born c 1812.

A grandson of John and Mary, James Hughes b c1866 married Margaret Rainey, daughter of a John Rainey and Maria Hume.

My 3x gt grandmother Eliza Ewing married Bryce Henry c 1838/9. I do not know of any of the Henry DNA that made it to the USA. None that I know of as yet anyway.

Cheers

Linda (NZ)

Linda,

Thank you for this information. I am thinking there may be something here. All of the John Gilmore's had the middle name of Henry. :-)  I also know that I have 2 DNA matches who have the McKelvie in their trees. Maybe I am stretching things to make things fit. ?
Will certainly look into this Rainey family.
Thank you,
Donna

I have just been checking on the Margaret Maria Rainey who married James Hughes in 1901. I had taken her date of birth c 1865 from the Stevenson tree in Ancestry which has the earlier McKelvey/Rainey marriage.

Only Margaret was a minor when she married and is 18 in the 1901 census. So a birth date of c1882 is more likely. Margaret's father John was 60 in 1901 and 71 in 1911 (farmer at Aghaboy).

James' brother Thomas Hughes married Elizabeth Rainey. Elizabeth may be the daughter of Elizabeth McKelvie. I have that relationship in my Graham tree but not sure on what evidence.

Cheers

Linda.
