Edward O'Donnell/Mary mcGettigan
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 23:07 BST (UK) »
Trying to find out any information about my 2 x great grandparents Edward O'Donnell and Mary McGettigan. They possibly lived in Glen, and had sons Daniel and John, and a daughter Bridget. Daniel was born around 1867, John in 1869, and Bridget in 1866. I believe there were other children too, but so far I've had no luck locating them. Possible son called Mandy, ( edmond? manus ? ) Believe there was a hotel or similar business which transferred to McGettigan side of the family because no O'Donnells were left in Donegal to inherit. Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Daniel got married in 1894, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Ellen Higgins.

My great grandparents were Edward and Mary and my grandfather was Mandy who lived in Glen until his death in 1931. They had four daughters and three sons, Mandy may have been the eldest.

A Mandy O'Donnell of Glenmenagh married a Mary Ann Friel on 4 March 1889, his father was given as Edward O'Donnell, farmer and publican, the witnesses were McGettigans:

The family in 1901: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Glen/Glenmenagh/1194821/

And in 1911: http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Glen/Glenmenagh/504571/

I can see 4 sons and 5 daughters - Mary 1889, Edward 1891, James 1893, Winifred 1895, Maggie 1896, Bridget 1899, Michael 1901 (d.1902), Manus 1905, Fanny 1910 - you can find the births  here:
