Cocoa Rooms, Ranelagh Street, Liverpool
« on: Monday 09 May 16 12:04 BST (UK) »
The family story is that my grandmother worked in Cocoa Rooms in Ranelagh Street at some time. This must have been before she married in 1906. A quick search turned up a reference to the Central Cocoa Rooms in Ranelagh Street, in Google books.  Can anyone tell me when this business was in operation and who ran it ?
Thanks to anyone who can help with this.

There were these two establishments,
John Clement Spragg, restaurant, 19  Ranelagh Street, called the Central Café in 1918.
Spiers & Pond Limited refreshment rooms J.E. Borrett manager. 28 Ranelagh Street

Is this the refence you saw? http://www.rootschat.com/links/01hlq/ I see it is called Central Cocoa Rooms, Ranelagh Street, so is probably what was called the Central Café in 1918, at 19 Ranelagh Street.

Thanks for your helpful replies. Liverpool seems to have been packed with Cocoa Rooms. Yes, Stan, that was the reference to the Central Cocoa Rooms I spotted. It hadn't dawned on me that the name was due to the fact it was only yards from Central Station !  By the sound of it, it was opposite. I hadn't thought of searching newspapers either, so thanks for that,  Cathy. I will have to go and have a look and see if  the building is still there next.

I do not think that the building will still be there after 100 years has elapsed.

I don't understand why you would say this:

I do not think that the building will still be there after 100 years has elapsed.

I know Liverpool has been messed with a lot over the years but there are plenty of buildings still standing which are 100 years old.

That building is certainly over 100 years old.  :)
