No   Sorry

As you know Johanna married John Alfred Hurley it may be worth considering buying their marriage certificate to confirm her father's name, as mentioned you can order certificates from the GRO
link posted

Here's their marriage entry details  from FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Dec 1915 Stepney   1c   946
Walker   Johanna
Hurley John A

If we have the correct family on the census this would appear to be her birth entry
(previously given) - the Sept quarter would be correct for the dob you have given for Johanna
and this will confirm her mother's maiden name & her father's name & occupation

Sep 1888 St. Geo. East   1c   352
Walker   Johanna

the marriage details for Richard Walker & Catherine

30 July 1871 St Thomas Stepney
Richard Walker labourer father Richard coachman
Catherine Megan father Cornelius labourer
Both f/a, both single, he signed she made her mark (x)
Witnesses Edward ? & Jane ?/ey

I've been trying to find this Catherine on the census with father Cornelius but I'm
not having much luck it could be a mistranscribed surname  ???

At the moment this is the only father/daughter named Cornelius & Catherine Whitechapel
I can find on 1861 census but their surname appears to be DONOVAN  ??? so probably not the
correct one :-\

RG 9; Piece: 272; Folio: 114; Page: 21
5 Gower’s Place Whitechapel
John widower 63 Ireland House Carpenter
Cornelius son married 39 Ireland occ Labourer
Catherine son’s wife 30
Mary Ann 11
CATHERINE 8 (1853)Whitechapel
John 4

then there's this 1871census entry  father/dau Cornelius & Catherine but she's born Bermondsey
surname is written as REGAN

RG10; Piece: 627; Folio: 71; Page: 38
2 Suffolk Place Bermondsey
Cornelius Head mar Ireland occ Labourer
Mary 38
Annie 19
CATHERINE 16
Johannah 11
Cornelius 9
Mary 5
All others born Bermondsey

As previously stated the only way to be 100% certain of mmn is to obtain Johanna's birth certificate to confirm

If that is the correct marriage ?? It was in a Church of England -as was the marriage of that Catherine's parents -which would be very unusual for a Catholic family??
Suzard.

What church did Catherine's parents get married in as I haven't read this.

And would you have any idea who Catherine's parents were I mean her mother as I know her father was cornelius Megan.

Thanks.

Hopefully Suzard will be back on soon and can confirm details for the marriage of Catherine's parents

my nan Johanna walker was born July 10th 1888 in st George

I just wanted some information on Richard and Catherine parents.

lavender123 - if you haven't got Johanna's birth certificate where did you get her date and place of birth from?

Have I assumed correctly that you got her dob 10 Jy 1888 from her 1970 death entry and she remarried in Dec 1928 Stepney?

From the marriage previously posted stating 30 July 1871 St Thomas Stepney Richard Walker married Catherine Megan -her father entered as Cornelius Megan

the only Catherine megan I could find of correct age and similar p.o.b. was Catherine Megan with widowed mother Catherine - tracing back further that Catherine's father appears to be Edward Megan???

the Catherine Regan from 1871 census (posted by Ladyhawk) with father Cornelius Regan seems to be a better match -but further research is needed

What puzzles me most is you stated that Joanna was Roman Catholic- where did you find this information? - yet her parents ( if we have the correct marriage ) were married Cof E .

I rang GRO this morning for birth certificate for Johanna walker born 10th July 1888 they found it , fathers name was Richard walker , but they said that the mothers surname wasn't Megan or Reagan !they would tell me what the surname was until purchase , which I am doing as well as marriage details for Catherine and Richard walker. I don't know about this rc thing as my mother was baptised a catholic , so her mother Johanna walker or her husband Richard walker must have been Catholic.or if one of them was r/c that would be alright but I thought in those days you could marry Church of England and if so you couldn't have your child baptised r/c. If you know what I mean, the church was very strict.i know for a fact Johanna was Catholic as four of her children went to the Magdalene school for years due to John a Hurley s early death. Very strange.
