St Mary's Protestant Church, Clonmel, Tipperary
« on: Wednesday 11 May 16 11:24 BST (UK) »
Hi can anybody help.

I have recently discovered a family tree that was produced in 1929. In it it states that several members of the family were baptised at St Mary's Protestant Church in Clonmel, county Tipperary between 1833 and 1854.

Can somebody please advise:
Is or was there such a church?
Do the birth, marriage and burial records still exist?
If they exist what is the best way to get information from them?

Thanks in anticipation of your help
Regards

That St. Mary's is Catholic

The 3rd link I posted earlier gives the history of St. Mary's Church of Ireland

Hi aghadowey & jaybelnz.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
I have followed Aghadowey's links and can find the graveyard list of occupants. I assume that this list has been created from a survey of the graveyard. Would you know if the birth the parish registers (baptisms, marriages and burials) still exist.

jaybelnz: When I looked on the Internet I did the same as you I found the Catholic Church insted of the Church of Ireland.
Once again thanks for your help

From this site - it seems that only very early records up to 1807 have survived.

You could e-mail the RCB Library and double check.

Hi annclare,
Many thanks for your reply.
Your link is fantastic.
The first person on the 1929 family tree I discovered last week was recorded as being born 19th April 1806 at Clonmel. So I have a good chance that I may be able to find his baptism.

I heard several years ago that the church records had suffered some water damage. As far as I know the records are still kept in the church.  You could also try the Registrar's office in Clonmel since Protestant records began earlier than Catholic ones as far as I know.
