Hi,

Thank you to both of you for taking the time to look for me, I've been struggling for so long with this one so you're help is really appreciated.

Hoisdenclough could be Howden Clough near Batley/Dewsbury.

I've looked at other records for a Wakefield baptism/marriage and Dewsbury all saints does come under Wakefield.

I didn't realise there were apprenticeship records, no sure where I would find them?
The Batty Clothier is a funny be one to be transcribed as, I did smile at that one.

The witness Benjamin Gomersall possible sibling of Polly, can see two baptisms at Birstall, 26 Dec 1751 Birstall son of Jno. and another one 14 Oct 1759 son of Jonathan

No baptisms for a Polly or a Margaret , but a few for a Mary.

Do you think Mary Webster (first wife) of Robert (snr) could be the mother of Robert? The dates of marriage 1747 tie in with Robert's date of birth 1752.  It seems more likely?
Birstall comes under Batley.

Yes, I think it could be the mother of Robert (bn 1752).

There were other possible children too born to Robert and Mary

Eliz. bpt. 24 Feb 1749 Wakefield, All Saints

..then Robert ( transcribed as Bob on Anc*  ;) )

then a couple in Birstall

John  bpt.  6 Jun 1756   Birstall, St Peter  (of Birkenshaw)
Mary  bpt. 22 Aug 1762   Birstall, St Peter  ( "         "        )

I'm just going to work now but as soon as I'm back I'll reply to anymore messages and see if I can find anything for Mary Webster  :)

Thanks again

I'll have a look now that I'm back from dinner ( 2 for one at our local; who could resist?).

Not sure about Yorkshire apprenticeship records.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

No I had a quick look, but couldn't see a possible apprenticeship record.

It is worth noting that Batley was the place to be for weaving cotton etc. Clothier may just be a fancier name for a weaver possibly.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner  :D

I found West Yorkshire apprenticeship records, but no Elliott's at all. Not sure how comprehensive it is.
A clothier is/was similar to a haberdasher. Some of my wife's ancestors were clothiers and haberdashers in London.

And yes thank you, the mixed grill was great.  :)
