Frances (Fletcher) Swinson
« on: Thursday 12 May 16 14:19 BST (UK) »
My great grandmother’s sister, Frances Fletcher was born in Sutton on Trent in the June Quarter of 1853.

She married George Swinson in Derby in March Quarter 1879 and they went on to have two children called, confusingly, George and Frances.

I have Frances on all the relevant censuses except the 1891. George and the children are at home in Derby, but I can see no sign of Frances.

Can anyone else see her anywhere?  I've not put this in look ups because on at least one other census she is away visiting relatives, so it may be that she could be anywhere in the country.

Not just me then.

However, like Eccles said, "Everybody's got to be somewhere."

I wonder where she's hiding.

I don't suppose it helps much..but the 1881 census appears to be the ONLY Census on which George and Frances are actually together...so what might have happened that finds her in 1901 with her son George..as a visitor at the Dolphin Pub.........and as a widow with her daughter in 1911 ?????
It seems that when she disappeared from the marital domicile..it was for good!!

George died in January 1911..before the 1911 on which she is a widow.......and she may have died in December 1920..in Ormskirk Lancashire......as good a place as any!!

Yes, Ormskirk makes sense.

There is talk on line of a South African connection.  I don't know where I would start with that.

Am sure you already have this but just in case - I was in St Werburgh's in Derby this morning looking at the old chancel and there is a 1914/18 Memorial to the 2/1 North Midland Field Ambulance - R Swinson is listed.  Apologies if it is of no interest (I was looking for Winsons at the time and thought of you)
