From Minniehaha´s replies #15 and #17 it would seem that Harry Jeffery born 1904 was married to a Mary Edith, can anyone find the marriage?

Also; did Robert Melhuish Jeffery marry?

Could Bertram and Amy JEFFERY have been divorced between 1919 and 1926 when she married Charles Henry ROBINSON?

Are there any newspaper reports to see more?

I'd better first declare my relationship to all this. Harry Jeffery was my father.

So to some information.

Bertram Harry Jeffery married Amy Melhuish in Exeter Cathedral 18 March 1903. He was born in Melcombe Regis Dorset in June Q 1874 and was a brewer's clerk. He claimed to be all sorts of other occupations through time, but I digress. Amy was born in Washfield Devon 21 May 1880 and was the daughter of a land holding family. Both of her parents died whan Amy was about 5.
There were two sons born in England, Harry Jeffery born 14 Feb 1904 and Robert Melhuish Jeffery born 6 August 1906, both at Weymouth. They emigrated to NZ in 1906. I have the details somewhere if you wish.
Bertram was a bit of a ne'er do well and lived a lot of the time separate from Amy. They lived mostly in an area north of Wellington or in Gisborne while they were to together. He moved to Auckland sometime after they separated.
They had one boy and a short lived girl in New Zealand, George Melhuish Jeffery born 9 Feb 1908 and Emily Mary Jeffery (I'd not heard of here before this)
There seems to be some naughtiness around the Amy-Bertram-Charles Robinson triangle. As indicated, Amy married Charles Henry Robinson on 29 Sept 1926 in the Wellington Registrar's Office. In the marriage cert, it is claimed that Bertram had died. However, he actually died in Auckland Hospital 14 Jul 1941 and, as indicated, was buried at Waikumete Cemetery.
Harry married 1. Eva Emilie Anstice, 9 Jul 1925, Knox Church Masterton NZ and went to live in Tauranga. They divorced in 1937. Marriage 2. Mary Edith Green, 15 Oct 1943, Registrar's Office Christchurch. (my mother).
Harry died in 1970, Mary in 1968.

Robert Melhuish Jeffery married Gladys Mary Uru Brown 29 Dec 1957 in St Columba's Church, Hornby, Christchurch.
George Melhuish Jeffery married Glory Elizabeth Bartlett 9 Jun 1945 at St Saviours Church, Sydenham, Christchurch.

From about 1940, all the boys and Amy were living in Christchurch where they remained until they died.

Does that help a bit?

Keith Jeffery

I am so surprised and pleased that my Topic has come up with so much information. :D :D Thank you all; especially Lucy2 for taking so much trouble in searching for me. 8) 8)

I shall take a good look at it all and reply later.

I can't read. Marriage of Robert M Jeffery was 29 Dec 1937. They had one son, Kenneth Jeffery who died in a cycling accident as I recall. I'd better check.

Cheers, Keith

And we can add the following:

I would say that the Jeffery family went first to Palmerston North as the birth of son George Melhuish Jeffery is there.

Son of Robert Melhuish Jeffery was Kenneth Robert Jeffery born Christchurch 24 Sep 1939. He's dead, so not private.

Emigration from the UK was from London on the Athenic, departing 21 Sep 1906.

Cheers, Keith Jeffery
