British Army Numbers - letter prefix 1920 onwards

In 1920, the army introduced a new system of issuing numbers. Sometimes this
included letter prefixes. More info here:

McBride (Monaghan, Manchester), Derbyshire (Bollington,Cheshire), Knight (Newcastle,Staffs), Smith (Chorley, Lancs & Ireland), Tipladay (Manchester & Yorkshire) ,Steadman (Madeley,Shropshire), Steele (Manchester,Glasgow), Parkinson (Wigan, Lancashire), Lovatt, Cornes & Turner (Staffs) Stott (Oldham, Lancs). All ended up Ardwick, Manchester

However,  by 1940  it appears that it was the RASC which was the main user of the S  prefix for Supply side    and T prefix  for Transport  or MT  side.

And  if you were in the RASC and did not have a prefix letter then you were probably in RASC / EFI. During WW2
