Sooooo felt I needed to summarise - what we seem to have is
Ambrose b 1842 d 1874 (Essex)
married 1st Victoria Forth 1867 (UK) who died 1872 in childbirth in Bombay
married 2nd Susannah Griffiths 1873 in Bombay

Ambrose reportedly left 2 children - death and place matches to his father being Samuel but the children living with Samuel would be too old for Ambrose's marriage dates. And at no point has Arthur been found related to Ambrose, but then as Shaun has just found there are a couple more Stowers in India!!!

I have so many tabs open on my computer, I'm completely confused ;)

Of course just because Arthur has put that his birthplace was India may not mean he was actually born there.  Ambrose married in 1867 in England so Arthur could have been born before he left for India but I can't recall finding any births for Arthur in previous searches.

That's interesting!!

In the outgoing passenger list 1929 from UK to Bermuda (which is where Arthur's daughter Annie emigrated to as her husband was Bermudian) there is William H Stowers aged 57 with Sarah A Stowers 57 and Frances Stowers 15 (birth found with mum's maiden name Tarrell) and travelling with their son in law.

I think to get any possible, factual proof, you need to bite the bullet and get Arthur's marriage cert.

Good luck 😀

Thinking that way myself - although having decided to do this as a surprise for a friend, I was hoping it would be straightforward and documented and not to have to cough out on buying certificates.

Thanks for all your help everyone :)

If you find a link to Ambrose, or for any others researching this line, both grandchildren were registered as surname Forth. Ambrose Sept Q 1859. Georgina Sept Q 1862 reg district Witham. Parents married 1867.

Checked as it was niggling me 😉
