Hi there  :)

Ok, the name Crawford Boyce for one of Alexander and Elizabeth's daughters that you mention got me thinking, particularly when a girl's name. You have a daughter named after Elizabeth's mother. How about this possibility, from a death in 1859:

Jane or Jean TAYLOR, married; d. 19 Nov, Rose-Wynd, Crail, age 66;
Parents: George TAYLOR, weaver in Crail, deceased & Crawford BOYCE, deceased

Could this be Alexander's family I wonder?

Were there any sponsors names given in the christening entries of daughters Jane and Crawford?

Thanks Monica

so sorry re the marriage date entry (I really must check my entries before publishing).    The witnesses for the births are:

Jane A - Jas Brown letter carrier and James Taylor coal dealer.
Crawford B - James Brown Gfather and Margaret Lonie

so it looks like James T could be the father of Alexander, I will now check this and the other info you gave.

I looked up the marriage of Alexander Taylor and Elisabeth Brown in 1837 and the witnesses were James Taylor, Coal-dealer in Crail, and David Taylor, grieve in Crail.

Other Taylors were fishermen, including Andrew Taylor who later married my 2 x great-grandmother Marjorie Myles, a single mother of two.

Thanks Harry

I think that James the witness to the marriage and the birth of Jane is the brother of George.    If this is so then Alexander is a brother of the Jean Taylor that Monica has mentioned.    Jean is a GGGgrandmother of mine.

According to some family trees, Jean/Jane Taylor b. 1793 and daughter of George and Crawford married another Taylor, a James. Maybe he is the witness and sponsor? There are a number of online trees available via subs to a/try including this one here for example http://person.ancestry.co.uk/tree/66851634/person/38155937420/facts

From these trees, Jane's husband James is showing as having died in 1867 so should help in confirming details further. This James' parents given as James and a Margaret (Elder).

Maybe this entry for 1851?

James Taylor 60 ship owner
Jean Taylor 58 wife
James Brodie 60 boarder boatman

Address: Shoregate Or Rose Wynd, Crail

Following a marriage in 1814, likely children showing for them include:

James 1814
George 1815
Crawford 1818
Margaret 1820
James 1824
Alexander 1830

Names used fit well with naming pattern with what we have for them so far.
