You shouldn't be required to get an Ancestry sub.  See here, under "How to Obtain Copies, or Consult a File".  It says you just have to register - this is not the free trial sub.  You don't have to give your credit card number...

Hello "Runkitty",

Many Thanks for sending me the link how to obtain copies,or consult a file. I have tried to find the file of John Baldwin but no luck. Most RCAF people I looking for "No files" or PDF files. Maybe i do something wrong or the file is not digitised yet??

Hi,

The files are not with Library and Archives Canada that's why you see "no files" or "PDF files."
An agreement between LAC and Ancestry, allows Ancestry to retain these files which are
viewable through Ancestry for free. You just have to register with Ancestry for a "free" account,
and you will be able to see the files.

Cheers,
DB

Yes - DB is right... under the "How to Obtain Copies or Consult a File" on the Library and Archives Canada site, there are instructions about how to view the file on Ancestry.  It says you don't need to sign up for the trial membership (which can become a paid membership after the trial period).  All you need is the free account... which is always free :).

Too bad the LAC didn't have any PDF files on their own site for the people you are researching.  If you are having difficulty with the free Ancestry account ... polarbear suggested that you see if your library has access to the Ancestry library edition.    You could read the files from a computer at your own library - also at no cost.  :)

Will try them both. From the +100 Canadian flyers i only found two with PDF files on the LAC site which is bad from my point of view :'(  Thank you all very much for the link and let's hope so we can get in touch with the relatives of John Baldwin soon.

The family is listed on the 1921 Canadian Census at Ingersoll, Ontario
They were of Irish origin and Presbyterian - there was a sister named - sending PM

We have no idea what myluck sent you - Did myluck send enough information for you to contact relatives or are we still looking to trace the sister ?

Sounded a fairly active chap and engaged in a few sports - baseball, rugby, hockey, basketball moderately  ;)

According to John's army records his sister was still alive at the time the family was contacted in 1944 that he was MIA

I did not find further information on her and only PMed her name

As she was born c 1915 I will presume she is deceased. Her name was Gertrude Irene Baldwin and was referred to as Irene in the 1940s

Wondered if that was the case and it might stop others searching  - suspect that this might be a good possible for Gertrude Irene Baldwin - "Irene"

If nothing materialises on here for the obit - then perhaps an e-mail to Hamilton Public Library might be worth a shot.  ??? They have a contact us link  ???
