mollipops

This is quite a large family.  Some stayed in Adelaide, some came to Victoria to Amherst and onto the Cobden/Camperdown area and Cowley's Creek.

June

The only surviving headstone at Daisy Hill.

I wish I was that lucky to know that mine were there!

Amherst Cemetery is a couple of km's away.  There are more Cowley's there.

Thank you Bitzar. It's amazing that I have found one family line with some information about them. The majority of my lines - especially the main ones - were I think, hiding under stones at every census, possible family gathering or at any time anyone was keeping records of anything.

But that's the thrill of the chase and makes it even more of a thrill when something is found.

Oh and I should add that Harriet is my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. Not a close relationship - but a relationship nevertheless.

Kind regards - June

June you  may like to have a peep at all the free links on the Resources board which would many of the links posted on the thread.

I have many South Australian resources but need to reinstall the drivers on a new PC...enough angst just getting my accountancy and other programmes functioning....joys of living in the bush and relying a tech 300 kms away to do the right thing. >:( >:(  Hate new PC's ::)

This is from the Biographical Index of South Australians which was compiled from research by the SAGHS now SAGenealogy from information in archives, public records, private papers and letters of administrations as well as contributions from individuals.  Published in 1986.  An excellent resource to start your South Australian research however the information is not always accurate.  Bear in mind that this was an enormous undertaking and of course they didn't have the internet to search for information at the click of a mouse.

This would be contributed information.

Lots of Victorian wills listed here for COWLEY, including a Robert and 3x Albion
Many wills earlier than 1926 are available on-line and often give very good family information.

My OH has a very, very distant link to Robert via his son Thomas and the only information I have can be found in the public arena.

I think the Cowley's owned/ran a number, well possibly more than one, hotel's/pub's in Amherst in the early days.  Even into the 1900's I think they may of still been in hotels in opposition to the Gane family, my connection, kind of.  I could be wrong Cando, my memory is fading!

But something that might not be in the Cowley public domain...

Henry Cowley Daniel BURGE
father:
mother: Rose BURGE
birth: 1878 Amherst
reg: 12909

Henry Cowley Daniel BURGE
father:
mother: Rose BURGE
death place: Talbot
age: 20
year: 1898
reg: 9975

I know we don't assume  :-X , because we know what that is, but what do you reckon, Daniel Cowley as father?!

Rose is the d/of Thomas Burge and Elizabeth Lane so that's not where Cowley comes into it either!
