1891 request please
« on: Thursday 19 May 16 12:10 BST (UK) »
Hi, Im not having much luck finding my ancestor in 1891.
His name was John Carter and he was born in Abergavenny in 1865. He married Ellen Casey in Abergavenny in 1889 and I cannot find him nor Ellen in 1891.
I'm assuming wherever they are they are together.
They had a daughter in 1899 who was born in Staffordshire (It says Cobridge in 1901, Burslem in 1911 and she was registered at Wolstanton district).
Couls some kind person help me out please?

Many thanks, Lisa

Wasn't the daughter b 1900??
She is beatrice E on 1901 census age 8months
think her birth is registered as beatrice Helen ??

Yes that's the one, thank you lizdb and suzard. 1900 birth not 1899 - sorry.

Ellen (her middle name was a family name) and it regularly changes itself from Helen to Ellen and back again lol.

No luck with 1891?

it seems Ellen's family are in Somerset in 1891 - Ellen not with them but her mother is a grocer and beerhouse keeper
As John Carter was a grocer's Carter ( I read it as carter not Clerk) in 1901 wonder if he helped in mary Casey's business in Somerset??

1891
15 Cambridge terrace Bedminster Somerset
Mary Casey head widow 53 Grocers & Beerhousekeeper Cork
William son S 35 Guard Abergavenny Mon
Mary daughter 18 Dressmaker Abergavenny
Lillie (think this is Elizabeth?) daughter 8 Abergavenny

Thank you Suzard that does seem to be the in laws doesn't it. And yes I think it is carter aswell. He is a market porter in 1911 so I guess that ties in aswell.

I tried searching using the place names that their daughter was born too but no luck.

Suz, I don't think he was married before. His family tend to do this a lot to be fair, like disappear on certain censuses and then crop up in the following ones. That certainly does look like his wife doesn't it.

His absence may explain the 10 year wait till arrival of (apparent) first child.
