Hello,

I'm trying to find a baptism for a William Ruff, fathers name also William Ruff. He was born c. 1785 and was baptised at Fulham. I've looked on 3 different websites.. But cannot find anything. Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Hi Amelia

What is the evidence to show that he was baptised at Fulham (or at all) if you haven't found his baptism?

Is he the William Ruff, 57 b Middlesex, who appears in central London (St Clement Danes) in 1841, and did he survive to 1851 for a more precise birthplace in the census?

I see a November 1786 baptism for a William Ruff son of William & Ann at Sunbury (Middlesex) - not sure whether you're aware of that one. Edit: actually he can be eliminated - died at 10 days old.

Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

He was a messenger for government as was the man who I believe to be his father. They later frenchified their name and added an 'e'. He detailed this in his will.

Is this the William Ruffe in Tamworth? Who died 1847. Age 84 years old on burial.
Is a PCC Will
Was he the father of Richard Edwin Ruffe, the surgeon, and ladies man?
