Please remove the flash!
« on: Wednesday 20 July 05 21:33 BST (UK) »
Is it possible to remove the flash. I had to take this picture without removing the 'cut out chicken' on the right hand side and through glass. I cannot turn off the flash on my digital camera so I have ended up with part of a chicken and flash glare.

The person I am interested in is in the middle bottom row.

I have wondered since if I could put my finger over the flash?

Please have a go if you can.

Thanks

Jane

Hi Jane ... I'm afraid there is not a lot you can do ... Even when looking at the "flash area" after zooming in under photoshop there is very little detail to be able to recover successfully ... the flash has blown out most of the detail just leaving white pixels ....

Putting your finger over the flash may just confound the problem by fooling the camera into thinking it has flashed and under or over expose the shot ... I'm surprised you do not have an option to switch the flash off ... Almost all digital cameras have this feature ... but it may be buried under numerous levels of function menus ...

Sorry I can't be any more helpful ...

Try standing at an angle of 45 degrees the flash will then not show on the glass, or use a tripod and do a timed exposure.

PS:

When there is no detail in a picture it is virtually impossible to repair, I did once reverse half a face to replace the missing half!

Sometimes you can copy and paste somebody elses body, but you really do need a good face.

Just to add to what has already been said, If you look at the attached picture you will see I have sampled the flash area. The Levels histogram shows there is no digital information so one way to fix the photo would be to take the photo outside in broad daylight and take a picture. Your camera may have a light sensor that will turn off the flash when light levels are high enough.

Thanks for the replies I will just have to go there again if he does turn out to be a relative, I am fairly certain.

Hi Jane

I dont like my version at all  :o , so called it digital frankenstein, it is made up of other body parts. They may have blended in better if I had more time to work on it.

Hi there

Thought I'd add my two pennyworth ;D

I know nothing about photography...but.....would the camera flash if you took the pic outside to snap? Doesn't it only flash if it thinks it's too dark indoors.

This might not be an option I know....but just a suggestion incase it is.

No doubt someone clever will tell me this won't work.

oh well

Cheers anyway

Carol

Thanks Ken it looks alot better than with the bright flash all over it.

The problem was I could not remove it off the wall hence the quick snap. Next time I go I will ask permission to remove it and take it outside.
