Stuck - Melluish family
« on: Saturday 21 May 16 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi I have a massive brick wall. I have posted previously in the Devon boards, but not progressed.
The family name is Melluish (various spellings but this is most commonly used).
My gt gt gt grandmother was Mary Melluish baptised Margate 1800 parents Joseph and Elizabeth. To my knowledge and through research she had two sisters Maria b 1803 Portsea and Eliza b1812 Plymouth. They were an army family Joseph was a soldier. I cannot find a marriage for Joseph and Elizabeth so her maiden name remains a mystery. I have Mary's marriages and family completed and Eliza. However I cannot find anything on Maria except her marriage in Plymouth to John Mathis ,a sailor.Neither of them appear again. I also wonder whether in between these three daughters Jospeh and Elizabeth had other children somewhere. I have been looking for years and cannot progress.
Any advice or further help would be much appreciated.

When does Joseph and Elizabeth Melluish die? Did either leave a Will - that might well name all surviving children.
Who were the witnesses on the marriages of Mary Eliza and Maria? Often they can be siblings.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Personally,  I find headstones contain a lot of useful information.

Try to find headstones for near family.

I dont know when Jospeh or Elizabeth died, cannot pick up a trail on them at all. Only one witness in all marriages is a relative and thats a brother in law. And to my knowledge no headstones for any of these people
