John Farrow and Family - Stradbroke c1800-1900
« on: Sunday 22 May 16 00:04 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

My windmilling interests have now switched across the county to Stradbrook.  There were 3 windmills here in the 19thc; Battlesea Green Mill, Barley Green Mill and Skinner's Mill.  With some many mills in a smallish village its hard to id a miller to the correct mill.

I'd be interested in any information on which mill the Farrow family had.  Also if they were related to any of the following (also millers in the village):-
Whiting or Whitling
Salter
Chenery
Cracknell

I've already established that a daughter of John Farrow, Dinah, married c. 1839 a miller from Denham called Canler (not sure of first name).

Any help or pointers who be fantastic!

Good morning to you both,

Thanks for the info.  Farrow was clearly at Battlesea Mill, and S. Hawes is a new name for Barley Green site.  Both bit VERY useful!

Cheers,
Windy

PS A second look at an advert in IJ 1825 shows that William Chenery was owner of a mill, so not a miller.

I believe that the Hawes sons took over the milling at Barley Green. C J Cole and R J Cole. There was also a daughter Miss D M. (Diss Express Oct 1937)

Hi Hookleg,

Are you saying that the Coles were Hawes sons or that Hawes sons took over the Cole business?
