Passenger list circa 1909/10

I have recently received a death cert with some details about a man who emigrated to NZ but I cannot find his name on passenger list.

Jocelyne Rawlings       Born   1902  London

Parents  Arthur Rawlings
             Ann Rawlings.

He is recorded as arriving in NZ aged 8 which would mean he arrived 1910.

I haven't been able to find his birth in London either .

His name is unusual but he uses this name in Electoral rolls later in life and also in his marriage to Ngaire Mayhill.

As these details were probably recorded by his wife I can only hope that they are correct.

Any help finding this person on a passenger list would be gratefully received.

Hi gaygirl

I found some passenger lists > 1929-1930 > for a "Mr J. RAWLINGS - born c. 1898-99  - occupation :  Electrician or Electrical Fitter - country of last permanent residence :  New Zealand, country of intended future residence - New Zealand.

On one occasion, arriving in London, 21 June 1929 on ship "Osterley" from Brisbane, his name is shown as "RAWLINGS - J.- Miss - struck through and replaced with "Mr".
[So, not actually listed as "Jocelyne" - but name apparently mistaken for a female ?   Occupation is correct.]

On another trip to UK August 1930, he's shown as "Mr A.J. RAWLINGS" - no occupation shown.

Of the three lists I found 1929-1930, all have a common address in UK, namely - 26 Pagnell Street, New Cross, (London)  S.E.

Have added this info in case it may lead to family of this man (in UK) ... and because if it is the man you seek (Jocelyne), then he was likely born a few years prior to 1902 ??

Thanks for that info.

He didn't marry until he was 57 so he probably was able to make frequent trips back to UK>
I think it is possible  search for an address in the census so perhaps family were living at that address in 1911.

Wondering if you have considered obtaining a printout for the marriage of Jocelyne? (Am assuming he married in New Zealand?) As the details would have been provided by the man himself, there may be some helpful information here about his birthplace and parentage.......
