Any pocketwatch experts out there?
« on: Sunday 22 May 16 10:36 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me anything about this pocket watch?

It's Swiss made. "Magnific".  I think the case is probably stainless steel. No visible markings. About 5cm in diameter.

I haven't been able to open up the back of it. Any tips for doing that?

It sits in a Smiths bakelite stand which may have been acquired separately.

"Magnific" Watches are only advertised in newspapers 1926 and 1927. they are priced at 2/6, 2/11,  3/4, and 3/11.

I found 3 "Magnific" watches registered in Switzerland:

1.  Made by A. Michel SA / SA des Usines Favoris - registered at Grenchen 27 March 1918
2.  Made by E. Roth - registered at Solothurn 12 November 1923
3. Made by Ed. Kummer AG / Ariston Inventic - registered at Bettlach 23 February 1928.

Thanks Rambler. It all points to the 1920's or early 30's which ties in with the bakelite stand.

It's dawning on me that the stand is possibly more valuable than the watch!
