Look-up request for John Horrobin
« on: Friday 27 May 16 19:30 BST (UK) »
My g- grandfather John Horrobin born 1841-42 was married to Mary Jane Foden in 1864,Manchester Cathedral.
His father is documented as Joseph.
John is a carter,he is in the 1891 census living in Bradford,Manchester.
His eldest son is Joseph. His daughter Alice Ann Horrobin is my grandmother, his youngest son was Abraham.
I have not been able to find John Horrobin's birth certificate, even though the trail is
Joseph to John to Joseph the eldest son of John.
I am hoping there is someone who could do a look-up for me.

Hi,

The marriage cert records John's age as 21 and therefore born c.1843.

There is a birth of a John Horrobin -
q3 1843, Manchester
Vol 20 Page 533

This could be worth looking at  :)

There is a marriage of a Richard Horobin (20) to a Mary Sweeney-
15 Dec 1861 Manchester (Cathedral)
Father - Joseph Horobin, Dresser
Wits - Elizabeth Clarke and John Horobin.

It would appear that Richard is a sibling of John as their father's name and occupation is the same on the above marriage cert and that of the John you are researching.

Looking at the image, Joseph's occupation could be 'Dresser' perhaps someone could look at the image to clarify the occupation please?

There is a death of a Joseph Horabin -

q3, 1847, Manchester
Vol 20 Page 842

The website www.lancashirebmd.org.uk  records the age of the above person as 39 and the Sub District as Ancoats (same as the 1841 previously posted). Also the ages of people over 15 years old were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 years. So I'm of the opinion that the death in 1847 is that of the Joseph on the 1841.

On Lancashire BMD there is a birth of a Richard Horrobin 1841, Ancoats and a John Horrobin 1843, both show their mother's name as Gregory.

From the 1861 previously posted there is a daughter of Richard and Ann called Elizabeth born c. 1853.
On Lancashire BMD her birth is recorded in 1852, Sub District London Road (same as 1861) mother's surname as Gregory  :) .
