Co. Armagh, Tyrone Ditches/Poyntzpass, Taggart/Guy
« on: Monday 30 May 16 03:13 BST (UK) »
We are trying to find information about a James Taggart of the Tyrone Ditches/Poyntzpass area in Co. Armagh, who may have married a Mary Guy b. in 1780's, whose parents may have been John and Margaret Guy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

"Tyrone Ditches " are near the junctions of three civil parishes ie
BALLYMORE , KILLEVY  and LOUGHGILLY
Poyntzpass is in the civil parish of Ballymore

I started with

1796
Flax Growers of Ireland
from http://www.failteromhat.com/flax/armagh.php
Guy                   Hugh                 Creggan               Armagh
Guy                   John                 Ballymore             Armagh
Tagart                Hugh                 Derrynoose            Armagh
Tagart                Owen, Jr.            Derrynoose            Armagh
Tagart                Patrick              Derrynoose            Armagh
Taggart               Owen, Sr.            Derrynoose            Armagh

thereafter I went by each civil parish
BALLYMORE

LOUGHGILLY
1834 from http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/armagh/tithe-applotments/loughgilly-parish.php#.V1bOs1eoc5Q  no entries found for either name.

next I would be checking out church records at PRONI downloadable arranged by civil parish
next
I would go to griffith-valuation. the quick index that gives townlands is http://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php
Guy   Patrick   Carrowmannan   Loughgilly   Armagh
Guy   Patrick   Ballard      Killevy      Armagh
Guy   Owen      Carrowmannan   Loughgilly   Armagh
Guy   Michael   Carrickgallogly   Loughgilly   Armagh
Guy   Henry      Carrowmannan   Loughgilly   Armagh
Guy   John      Ballynaleck      Ballymore   Armagh next I would look up each of these in the detailed version of http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/ I would find each poersons details and map ref and look up the map ref.. then look up the map offered and plot the homnestead .  next I would jump to google maps, satellite view enlarge to the point street scenes are seen and move up and down roads that were possibly used by the ancestors
good luck onwards

There are a few Taggart headstones in the Church of Ireland graveyard in Poyntzpass

The Poyntzpass & District Local History Society covers Drumbanager and surrounding townlands too.

John Edward Guy was an RIC constable in Poyntzpass (in the parish of Ballymore). He was born 1859 and died 1915.

RIC policy was to not post staff to the county where they were born (or where their wife was born). If John served in Poyntzpass, it's unlikely he came from that county. Have you checked his RIC record?
