Different Mark numbers  or different years.

Army will always make minor modifications  after experience in use.

The cap is also similar to French Army.
The cap has a field cover on this photo.

Like the look of the French army coat. Think buttons have been replaced, fourth button down looks different colour to others. Perhaps he bought it with the more valuable or wearable buttons removed and had others put on to replace them?

I don't believe this man's hat looks the same as a French het -it isn't 'square' enough at the top, to my way of thinking.  Also think it looks too soft.

Does this mean the photo was taken in France?
Is the balustrade typically French?
If the greatcoat was army surplus, the buttons could of been removed by the vendor to render the item non-uniform or to make more profit by selling the brass buttons separately.
Was French army surplus sold in the UK?
