which Grant family are you looking for as it is a very common names in the Roxburghshire, especially around Bowden, Newtown St Boswells & St Boswells

Borders Family History Society have publishers both Bowden & St Boswells MI over the years.

and the Grant's were Shopkeepers in these area for many years.

Hi

I know it's common and about the books but as I don't have access to these, was hoping someone had the names. In particular,  looking for a John Grant whose son William was baptised at St Boswells in 1764.

Thanks, Anne

Habenaro  May local people from the surrounding areas were buried in Melrose Abbey. Could this be the william you are looking for?
"72        In memory of WILLIAM GRANT portioner in Eildon and shoe maker in Melrose who"
"died 18.12. 1839 aged 75 years also AGNES BLAKIE  his spouse who died 2.2. 1821 aged 58 years ROBERT GRANT their son died _        ?"

This would make him born 1864? Hope this helps.

Also worth looking at maxton mi too  - Charles grant married Helen wood had john,Charles,James,George & Robert - the family moved around St Boswells , innerleithen, Earlston & Bowden - Charles senior died 1862 - helen run a shop & post office in Bowden for 40yr robert's daug Helen took it over in 1914 until around 1933 - john & Charles died young

Also in Newtown St Boswells  valuation rolls - there was a James grant in 1915 & Robert grant in 1865

Thanks for the feedback- I know of the stones at the abbey. That is my William and his son John there but it is pre 1764 I am trying to get to. I have William and his sister Jamima baptised in 1760s to a John Grant of St Boswalls...it is latter John I am looking for...I have my ancestors William and Agnes down to the present day!
