Hi Bob

... just confirming for you that the address (of daughter) in Adah's death notice, should read as number 97 Daniell Street (not 87 as is shown in your earlier posting.)  ;)

The HOFFMAN's lived at that (Newtown) address for many years.   His occupation was "tailor" - though he went on to be a "factory manager" (presumably a clothing factory?) at Levin, (Manawatu district) in the mid 1940's.  By 1949 they were living again at 97 Daniell Street, Wellington.

Do you have the death certificate for Ada BACK, to account for her children?

Hi Bob,

If you are going to purchase from NZ BDM's it pays to purchase "printouts" these are a photocopy of the entry in the register and often have more information that a certificate which is a legal document, also you can order them online and have them emailed to you.

Cheers Janette

Do you have the death certificate for Ada BACK, to account for her children?

Hi Bob ... just wanted to point out, that unlike (some) Australian death certificates, the only information contained on a New Zealand death record (printout) in respect of children of Adah BACK, will be those who are alive at the time of her death.  Further, -  the "Living Issue" section of the d/c records only the sex and current age of the living children.   [You may want to save your $$$  ?   ;D]

Adah's funeral notice records her children (... and grandchildren) by name.   Had any children predeceased her, it seems likely they might have been mentioned in such a notice ?
Cannot see in NZ Births additional children born to Adah (Ada) and George ?

I am hoping for some more additional information on the lives of George Back & Adah Spilsted, George & Ada married in Sydney, Australia had two children a boy and a girl and emigrated to New Zealand finish out the rest of these lives.

Hi Bob

It appears that George and Adah (Ada) were living in New Zealand from at least 1900 when they first show on an electoral roll in the Taranaki region.
Their addresses are shown differently - 1900 - he's a bricklayer at Queen Street;  Adah - domestic duties, address:  Young Street.  (I wouldn't read too much into that - sometimes a place of work was given as an address. )    By 1914 the couple are at Queen Street, Waitara (- Waitara is a short distance from New Plymouth.)

As to "emigration to New Zealand" their journey wouldn't have been classified as such.    Both George (of English birth) and Australian-born Adah, were deemed to be British subjects and therefore were free to come and go between NZ and AUS.    [It's possible that they moved to NZ to be closer to family already here ?]

Good finds, wivenhoe.   ;)

[I think possibly the 1907 funeral notices may just have referred to only Mr and Mrs BACK being "from New Zealand" ? ]

Elizabeth Harriette EVANS (known as Lizzie) died Sydney on 9 July 1919.

"SMH" ("Sydney Morning Herald") - 10 July 1919 - page 5, carried a number of funeral notices from SPILSTED family members and others.
