On Cyril Frederic's probate record it states Effects ...in England

so that must be the record for his property only in England

It is interesting that Bordyke Lodge Tonbridge Kent is given as address (on shipping records) for residence when in England.

I have Cecil in an early census in England would you like those details - also would you like me to list the dates shipping records I can find showing members of the families movements between England S Africa and Tasmania??

Hi Suz,

Yes please - Cecil's earlier address details in England might be helpful. And certainly the shipping records, as I noticed the record of them coming out to Australia only listed Clara and the 2 children ... perhaps Cecil travelled separately?

Heywood, thank you for the further clarification re Cecil's probate.

Derek - perhaps Cecil was stationed in Nyasaland at is point, hence the pension reference. Thanks for that idea.

Kind regards,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
That was Clara's probate with her address in SA. I don't want you to note the wrong name. ;)

Ah, yes, Heywood - my error. I did understand it was Clara, but had Cecil on the brain when I was typing!

Thanks for the clarification.

Suz - thank you so much for the information you posted. It has helped me clarify a lot of things, and I can now confidently write about this man and his part in the biography I am researching. You have been most helpful.

Wivenhoe - wow! I hadn't found that Mercury article and you are quite right; there was some great information in that article and it answers my question about the pension he was receiving and why 'Nyasaland' was written on his pension card. Thank you so much.

I think I have enough to go on now. Thank you all so much for your help. I am blown away by this forum and how wonderful and helpful everyone has been.

Very kind regards,
Kathy

I have the shipping details should you require them at a later date

If you put "Ferox Hall Tonbridge" into a search engine there is a picture of the hall (where cecil Frederic grew up ) The Hall was sold to Tonbridge (private boarding) school in 1892 and is still a Hall of residence to this day

"Old Tonbridge in picture" gives a photograph of Bordyke Lodge

"The Beeching family of Tonbridge" gives some interesting history of Cecil Frederic's family
