[Looking for Brooks]

I am hoping that someone can help me, I am looking for information about a William Brooks (b. 1879) he was married to a Jean B. Brooks (b. 1880). I believe one or both were from Paisley. Thank you!

How do you know that your William Brooks was born in 1879? And what was his wife's maiden name?

The births index at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk lists a William Brooks registered in 1879, but not in Renfrewshire, and a William Brook (without the 's') born in Renfrewshire.

The marriage index lists one marriage of a William Brook and two marriages of William Brooks to a Jean between 1890 and 1939, but none of the wives' maiden surname is Brooks and none has a middle name starting with B.

The LDS Church CD-ROM transcription of the 1881 census lists one William Brook, aged 1, at Cathcart, Renfrewshire, with parents Joe and Sarah M, both born in England.

There is also a William Brooks, aged 1, in Glasgow with parents Hugh, born Ireland, and Mary, born
Renfrewshire, and six older siblings.

There is another William Brooks, born in Glasgow, parents Robert and Catherine, but he is only 9 months old so born in 1880, not 1879.

Also a William Charles Brooks, aged 2 months so born in 1881 not 1879.

There are lots of marriages of William Brooks to a Jean at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl but the earliest is in 1936 which seems a bit late for your William.

What more do you know about your William Brooks, because without something more you won't be able to pinpoint him accurately?
