« on: Thursday 09 June 16 21:03 BST (UK) »
Whilst researching military gravestones in St Marks C of I Armagh I have come across a Cross on a base with the names Pakenham-Walsh FW Capt no other details there is no details on church records, date of  death etc. having checked various sites I can find nothing including Ireland Census 1901 & 11, this part of the graveyard has been in use since 1900s.
Looking advice?
Thank you
Joe

Hi,

Pakenham-Walsh of Rowner Glebe appears in Burkes Landed Gentry 1952.
You may find the Capt. in this. A member of this family who was I think was in the forces or police died in Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising in the early 1950s. Maybe the Captain?

It's possible that Capt. F.W. Pakenham-Walsh was married to a lady from the church and that's why he was buried there. Unfortunate no date on the memorial but suggest you contact the rector of St. Mark's and ask if an entry can be found in the burial register. Once you get a date of burial (and possibly a residence) it will likely be easier to trace this person.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Ray The Captain you are referring to is Capt Eric KAR wrong branch of the family.

Aghadowey thanks for your help, the church records show no details so far, there is Rev W Pakenham-Walsh who may be the father or relative of FW Pakenham-Walsh from Armagh Guardian 1960-80s!!
