I have found another child of this couple courtesy of the daltondatabank site, Mary Dalton was born 18 November 1886 at Martins Cottages, this time mother Eliza's maiden name is given as Gargan. Elizabeth's premarital name on her children's registration forms has so far been given as Dardin, Gargan and Whelan. On the registration of her marriage her name is Whelan, her Father Dargon.
The only deatail that doesnt seem to tally is that on his military record William gives his birthplace as St Peters, though as he lived away from his family since the age of 8 or 9, it might be expected that he would be unsure.
In 1901 census, only a year after Elizabeth's death there, only one Dalton is living in Martins Cottages, William Dalton a batchelor Labourer aged 40 is a lodger at number 7.
