Re the 14th May 1853 incident ...

The Minerva left Wellington NZ bound for Bombay on 22 April 1853

Next mention on 30th May 1853 the Minerva is 1-10 days from London (if it's the same Minerva)

On another thread in "Immigrants & Emigrants - General" related to ownership of ships 1840's-1850's - Seaweed suggests the website - http://www.crewlist.org.uk/data/vesselsalpha.php

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Searcher the National Archives crew agreements for London 1850. 2 large box's. There was nothing on MINERVA. So it's back to the drawing board.

Hi BumbleB, thanks for that suggestion.
On another thread in "Immigrants & Emigrants - General" related to ownership of ships 1840's-1850's - Seaweed suggests the website - http://www.crewlist.org.uk/data/vesselsalpha.php

If I'm understanding the information on that site it appears to state -

"The database includes every British registered ship from 1855 to the early 1950s"

This  would be later than the "Minerva" that was wrecked in 1850, so not hopeful.

Have been anxiously waiting to see if seaweed managed to locate anything at the Archives - see his reply from last night  :(

Thanks again.

Hello again seaweed and thank you so much for taking the time to do that search for me.
I appreciate your interest and involvement in this mystery of mine and hope it didn't take up too much of your day on my account.
Your statement - back to the drawing board - I think I will have  to put this one into the too hard basket and include the story in the ANDERSON saga as being "of interest", and "it is possible " etc etc.
Once again, many thanks for looking up this ship, I hadn't realised you would have to go trawling through big boxes!
While I'm disappointed I understand that if the info. isn't there, it just isn't there!
Regards from Down Under
