Dixie Family Tree
« on: Saturday 11 June 16 16:34 BST (UK) »
Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Phillip Dixie and I have been researching my family tree for the last 4 years. I am using Ancestry to create my tree.

I've started my tree from Edward Dixey my Great, Great Granddad & Sarah Anne Dixie (formerly Eastwood) married on the 4th November 1879. The marriage was solemnized at The Parish Church in the Parish of Croydon.

Below I've listed 4 of their children. If you can help in any way as to what happened to them i.e. death, marriage, children it would be much appreciated?

Councelletie Dixie (1871) Not sure about this. She married a Job Hearne and had many children. Is she possibly a half sister. She does not appear on any of the family census.

Clothilde Dixie (1876 - Still researching.

Patience Dixie (1878 - Still researching.

James Nelson Dixie (1888- Still researching.

Hopefully there is someone out there who can help.

Phil

Hi Phillip and welcome to RootsChat

Can you narrow it down a bit please and tell us exactly what information you are looking for, perhaps concentrate on just one or two people to start with.

It looks as if PATIENCE DIXIE married Henry Herne Dec quarter 1896 Brentford 3a 239

This couple can be found in the 1901 census living in Wandsworth with a lot of other hawkers

HI Phillip,

Warm Welcome to RootsChat from me to  ;)

Clothiilde on the 1891 census was baptised in the name of Councelette Dixie.

Quite possible the name caused problems for you finding her.

There is a marriage Councra Dixie or Councelette Dixie 1893 to Joseph Hearn - Q3 - 1893 - Bromley Registration District. 2 a 775

In 1901 slightly mis-transcribed once more - Wandsworth Registration Dist London and showing the year of birth as 1873 which is slightly out.

Job Hearn   32
Cancelly Hearn   28 Born 1873 Wandsworth.
Phillip Hearn   7
Sarah Hearn   4
Ada Rolly Hearn   2

However, on the 1911 census which I cannot transcribe for you (due to copyright) the date of birth for Councelettee would be correct.

Possible death record for Councelette Hearn but the birth year shows 1871  ??? Passed away September 1958 - Battersea London - 5c 33

Possible for husband (Job) Joseph Hearn born 1868 passed away December 1937 - Wandsworth London - 1d 628

Several of the children you list were born before this date. Were they illegitimate? Was Edward previously married? Is Edward Dixey the same as Edward Dixie?

Interesting, Sandra, as her sister also married a Herne/Hearn - I wonder if they were brothers?

OK, I can see the marriage cert on Ancestry.

Edward was a hawker. He and Sarah were both "of full age" and listed as bachelor and spinster. There address is simply listed as "Croydon" so don't know if they shared an address prior to the marriage. Both made their mark rather than signing. Witnesses Ebenezer Whittaker and William Groves.

Great names for the children (looking at 1891)!

Sarah was a flower seller and widowed.

Were the family travellers by any chance?

(Edited to add - t would seem so; Ada Dixie, 1884 Mitcham, same parents, occupation "Gypsy")
