Bransby/Branzby,Garrow,Ingram Family
« on: Sunday 12 June 16 03:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Is anyone researching the Bransby/Branzby,Garrow & Ingram family from Elgin/Aberdeen?

Alexander Bransby/Branzby  m.Mary Garrow 1822 Elgin.(Marraige Cert).
Children: Helen b.1823 Elgin (Birth Cert)
                      (1) m.1841 Kent James Ingram,  (Marraige Reg).
(2)m.1859 Australia George Scott Murray .(my relation) (Marraige Cert).

Jannet Ingram b.1825 Elgin. (Birth Cert).

John Garrow b.1827 Elgin. (Birth Cert).

The Garrows maybe from Aberdeen?

I have found Helen & James Ingram in the 1841 census in Surrey.
Helen then in 1859 marries George and emigrates to N.Z. Helen dies 1877 Dunedin N.Z.

Can anyone help me add any details to these families.

Go to http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp - there is some information there about this Bransby family.

However the date of birth cited in LIBINDX for John Bransby, 1804, is not from the source of the death date. The notice in the Aberdeen Journal on 25 June 1828 reads, "Died, at Woodhead of Fyvie, on the 14th, JOHN, son of the late Mr Bransby, Academy, Elgin". So I think this must be the infant John Garrow Bransby, born 1827.

The marriage of Al Brandsby to Mary Garrow was recorded in St Nicholas Parish, Aberdeen, on 25 October 1822.

I note with interest the marriage of Lewis Bransby to Janet Ingram in Huntly on 30 June 1792. Their recorded children were
Janet, born 1795
Alexander, born 1797
Margaret, born 1799
Ann, born 1802
all in Huntly.

Janet seems to have married James Inch and had two children. Ann married John Yule and had five children. All seven baptised in Huntly.

There is a Janet Bransby, aged 80, in Huntly in the 1841 census. Ages in 1841 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years, so she would have been born between 1756 and 1761. She could be Janet Ingram, widow of Lewis Bransby.

You can and should plan to view the originals of all these documents at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi, I know a bit about Helen Bransby (Ingram, Murray).  After her marriage to
George Murray in Geelong in 1859, they went to Dunedin, New Zealand, where they were teachers. In 1864 they became members of the Christadelphians and remained devoted followers all their lives. They had no children. She died in 1877of heart disease, and was the first person buried in the new Purakanui cemetery, Dunedin.
