MURPHY-JONESBOROGH AREA
« on: Sunday 12 June 16 22:46 BST (UK) »
Hi
Looking for any information on my Grgrandparents Michael Murphy and Rose who had the same surname Murphy
I found them on the 1911 Census at 43 Edenappa Rd With my Grandmother Gertrude and her siblings
Michael was married before and his children to the previous marriage were there as well
They were RC and my trouble is finding a MC ...Would he have been able to marry in a church or only a civil ceremony😊

Hi,
I can't get Sinann's link to work but a Michael Murphy married Rose Ann Murphy on 24 Oct 1901 in Meigh Roman Catholic Church, Parish of Killevy, Newry.

... a Michael Murphy married Rose Ann Murphy on 24 Oct 1901 in Meigh Roman Catholic Church, Parish of Killevy, Newry ....

The witnesses were Owen McCooey and Sarah Murphy, both bride's and groom's fathers were given as Patrick Murphy, both farmers.

Regarding the 1901 census return for the same Michael Murphy ...

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Armagh/Jonesborough/Edenappa/1033515/

... there are births / baptisms to match all of the children shown, all recorded with an address of Edenappa, all with parents given as Michael Murphy and Bridget Rorke.

Hi Kingskerswell
Thank you for prompt reply...I had found that listing but had nothing really to compare it with as had been told Rose was from ADAVOYLE and couldn't even find it on a map😊

Hi,
I think that your townland should read AGHAVOYLE which is in the parish of Killevy.

Makes sense but the station is listed as Adavoyle Station...Perhaps this is the more up to date spelling of it...
Was looking under MEIGH for it on google earth so glad you cleared that up for me😊😊
