This is a total aside, but when looking for some more info about Manor House and its demolition, I came across the Bomb Sight website which maps every bomb that fell during the London Blitz.  Everyone else probably already knows about this, but I thought it to be a fascinating resource.

Here's the link, zoomed into Richmond already http://bombsight.org/#16/51.4603/-0.2890

Thank you spidermonkey,

I haven't looked at the 'bomb' site for ages, I really ought to bookmark it.

That link doesn't work Spidermonkey.  :-\

I've been googling to see if I can find any lists of war damage in Richmond - found loads about WW2 but not much about WW1. I'm sure a local history group or local library would be able to help.

It worked for me.

Done a bit more digging and found this.
http://www.bedfordpark.net/genealogy/sayer/jps_richmond.htm

Robert Sayer
In 1850 he inherited all the property of his aged cousin and former guardian Frances de Pougens. Her property would have included the Manor House, Marshgate, Richmond,  which is given as Robert Sayer's address in a Richmond Directory for 1853. He sold part of the Manor House grounds to the London and South Western Railway but the house itself and its gardens remained in the family's hands until sold by auction in July 1914 for £2,750. The whole area has now been built over but the names Manor Road and Manor Grove mark the site. The house actually stood where Manor Road meets Sheen Road.

1861 District 1 Manor House
Robert Vivian 59 Maj General ….. Army K C B b Arundel Sussex.
8 household 5 servants
Next schedule Hickeys Almshouses.

1871 District 11 .  Manor House.
James Laming 52 general merchant land owner b London
6 people plus 5 servants
Next schedule – Black Horse.

So - do you think it`s the one shown on the end of Greena Road ? Obviously it was a large property and was let to well to do people.

From here http://www.felbridge.org.uk/index.php/publications/madame-de-pougens-grand-daughter-edward-evelyn-felbridge/ I quote:

In 1765, Frances's father James was made the Deputy Steward of the Royal Manor of Richmond in Surrey, rising to the position of Steward, a position he held until his death.  James was also Deputy High Steward of Westminster and was a personal friend of George III, who gave him the freehold of the Manor House, Marsh Gate, in Richmond, which became his family home.

Well I`ve been looking at old maps, and I must admit I`m confused.
There are various names relating to the King, but the last bit I`ve put about a steward seems to be the right location. I can only see Manor Road marked on one map.

Manor Road  - Sheen Road

http://www.environmenttrust.co.uk/sites/default/files/files/18%20James%20Sayer%20for%20website.pdf

As Steward, he lived at Manor House, Marshgate, which stood on the corner of Sheen and Manor roads. He was a close friend of George III; so close that the King granted him the freehold of Manor House.

Do you think this is the same place, but on some of the maps it is Kings Farm or Kings Lodge.

There is only the one map that seems to have Manor Road on it.

As I`m not familiar with this area – I`m struggling .
Thanks for all the interest and help.

I now have a book about the family that lived at Manor House.
It reads - Francis moved to Matson Villas, in 1873 Francis purchased the commodious Manor House with 5 acres of ground. The beautiful house originally the dower house of Queen Charlotte wife of George 111, and grounds were extensive enough to permit building of 55 suburban houses in 1914.

So - can anyone locate the place from this description . I`m still struggling.
