Carlton Hospital death, Worksop
« on: Tuesday 14 June 16 21:41 BST (UK) »
Please could someone let me know where Carlton hospital was located ..a picture online seems to give 2 locations.  Was it on site of Bassetlaw, or nearer Carlton itself - the pic shows a small building.

My gran's cousin died there in 1973 but as yet we dont know where he might have been buried (Joseph BANKS, age 84 from Haughton Farm)   Informant was a cousins widow, and no other immediate family known as he had lost his wife and children in 1916 and never remarried, so unknown if buried in churchyard or a municipal cemetery.  But the farm may have still been in the wider BANKS family.
Any info on the hospital and cemetery records will be grateful,
Thanks
Richard

Hi, just a few thoughts that may help.
I have asked elderly relatives who think Carlton Hospital was the isolation hospital on Hundred Acre Lane, Worksop.  However they think it closed as a hospital in the 1950's.  There were two other hospitals in Worksop, Victoria Hospital on Memorial Avenue, now demolished and one on Kilton Hill also demolished and replaced by Bassetlaw Hospital.
There is a cemetery on Retford Road on the outskirts of Worksop but I was wondering if he would have been buried in the same place as his family?
The Worksop Guardian may have published some details of his death/burial.
