Goss Family in Shoreditch area
« on: Friday 17 June 16 22:15 BST (UK) »
Good Evening,
I'm looking for some help,  I have a Richard Victor Goss born in 1792 not sure where he was born.  any help with that would be great.  I know he married a Sophia Sarah Mann in July 1821 and had a number of children which where all baptised in St Leonards in Shoreditch.  I know he died in the Falkland Islands.  One of his Sons was called Jacob Napoleon Goss and the family story is that the father was the bosun on the HMS Bellerophon the boat that Napoleon surrendered on.  But I think it might be French huguenot connection he was also a silk weaver.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank You
Gayle

Given his wife's name could this be the family in 1851?  Transcribed as Gass?

Are you certain that you haven't got families mixed up - it doesn't look as if Jacob Napoleon was his son!

Looking at the parish register of their marriage he is shown just as Richard.  However when he signed the register - after Richard and before Goss there is a very faint letter but it's not a V.  Looks more like an M or H

When is he supposed to have died in the Falklands?  Aged 57 and a glazier in 1851 doesn't really fit the profile
