Thanks Suz, My 3xgt grandfather was Thomas Phillips Burt, 1775-1832, but beware there were 3TPBs, one his grandson and another 2xgt grandson. Looking at the tree William was actually more of a contemporary of 2x gt grandfather Arthur Burt. Arthur had seven children who were born between 1837 and 1854. TPB 1775-1832 had 5 children. His father was George Burt who had 2 children named William and his father was a William. I was wondering if George 1749-1824 had a brother and the William who married Esther Hannah was from a line which has not yet been found. William was a popular name in the family at that time.
Burt, Cockrill, Craske, Debenham, Double, Grimwade, Grimwood, Hilder, Mayhew, Ray. All from  West Suffolk around the Bury St. Edmunds area.

I have the census with William Burt and Esther  Hannah if you require them
What I have discovered is that Arthur Burt (your 2x Grandfather?) and William & Esther Hannah lived next door but one to each other in 1851

1851
Street henston? Rd Norton Suffolk
Arthur Burt Head m 49Farmer of 127 acres employing 5 labs Fornham All Saints Suffolk
Harriot Burt wife 32 Walsham le Willows Suffolk
Thomas Phillips Burt son 13 scholar
Arthur mayhew Burt son 11scholar
George Albert Burt son 9 scholar
Martha Ann Marshall Burt daughter 2
John Hum Burt son 1
plus 2 female house servants and one farm labourer

next door but 2

William Burt head M 31 Gardener Norton
Esther wife 27 Norton

HO107 1794 182 19

Arthur consistently gives p.o.b. as Fornham All Saints (which is approx 7 miles from Norton)

Thanks Suz, It is the proximity of the two families which tends to make me think that there may be some connection. Although Burt is not an uncommon name, I have not come across any families with that surname other than relatives within 8 or so miles, even going back to the mid 1700s. There lots of Burts in the west country but again I cant make any connection.

If someone could find parish record of William's marriage to Esther  Hannah then there should be his father's name and occ given?? Witnesses should be named too

I am trying to find a baptism for him - I'll also see if I can find him on 1841

I am convinced William Burt is the son of William & Ann

It seems his father died 1850 but on FreeBMD his death is reg as William Bart
Death reg Mar qtr 1850
William Bart

and Possibly this is William (married to Esther Hannah)'s baptism record

and his parent' marriage
William Bart
Ann Friend
25 Feb 1800
Norton Suffolk
(1841 census there is a Sarah Friend with William & Ann Burt -maybe she was a neice?)

and William (married to Esther Hannah)'s father's baptism
William Birt

Norton
parents William Birt & Mary
