Birth of Lewis Traherne Moddgridge 1874 possibly Long Ditton
« on: Monday 20 June 16 04:01 BST (UK) »
Lewis Traherne Moddgridge  was a son of Matthew Weston Moggridge and Edith Giffard. His birth was registered in April 1874 at St George Hanover Square, London.

Edith's father, Jervis Trigge Giffard was the Rector of Long Ditton and baptised Lewis elder siblings Charles Dillwyn and Georgina.

Matthew was Curate of Long Ditton and in 1871 census was living at Long Ditton Hill.  However by 1876 he had taken advantage of an Act of Parliament, and resigned his position as clergyman and gone into Journalism.  The baptism of his daughter Helen Dorothy occurred at Manningham, St Mark, York in 1876.

I am hoping that someone with better skills than I will be able to locate his baptism and/or a newspaper article concerning his birth.

Fingers crossed  ;D

I can see his death 25 August 1948 at Umtali Zimbabwe indexed on anc*y but can't get to the Andrew's Newspaper Index card to see if it has any other biographical information.

Just checking my details, I found the death under the spelling of MOGGRIDGE?

It's spelt this way on freeBDM too.

Thanks so much  hanes teulu & mirl; you are correct also that I incorrectly spelt the surname.
