Looking for relatives of the late Leonard Johnson
« on: Monday 20 June 16 21:53 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of a Samuel Thomas known as 'Sam' Johnson born in late 1930's in Hampstead, London.  His mother died in 1948 under tragic circumstances and he and his brother and 2 sisters were split up.  I know all about his 2 sisters and brother.I know the boys were either fosterd out, or in a childrens home for a time.  The girls were sent up north to live with their father's relatives whom they had never met.
Their father was Leonard Johnson.  His mother was my Mum's cousin, but I don't know if they actually knew one another. You know what it's like with large families!

Sam's grandmother was Martha Thorpe my Grandmother's sister. They were born in Dublin but ended up living in London.

I have Sam's parents marriage cert and his and his siblngs Births certs, including the baby who ended up being adopted. (I'm in contact with her!)

Some relatives of my family think he might have emigrated, but I can't find anything else definite for him.

There are other Samuel Thomas Johnson's  Death's in the uk but are either too old or too young! Plenty of marriages for Samuel Johnson and Samuel T Johnson!

If anyone has a Marriage Certificate for Samuel Thomas Johnson, who father was Leonard Johnson, then please contact me so we can compare the details..
Regards..Teresa

If he was born in the late 1930's he may well still be alive.  Rootschat has a "no living persons" policy

A relative has told me that he has died, but they didn't know where or when.

His marriage certificate in Feb 1938, aged 22, he has the Address of 29 Chambers Ave, Conanby, Conisbrough.  He states he wa a Colliery Hewer as was his father Samuel Johnson.
Witnesses Rachael Johnson & Mrs I Ward.  Anyone know who the witnesses were?

Seems he told porkies about his address as he was living in London before he and his wife Anna, aged 25 were married and from oldest childrens birth certificates in London, 1934, he was a Railway Labourer & in 1936, he was a General Labourer.  1939 he was a Railway Labourer, 1944 He was a Railway Platelayer.

Leonard has a Lot of descendants I know of, so if you are one of them perhaps you might like to contact me.

Regards...Teresa

He may not have been telling porkies. Did they marry after banns or by licence?

No Banns as they got married by licence in the Registry Office.  I can only think that the address given must have been a relative's address as Leonard and Anna lived in London.  Anna died in London in the 1940's and I've found Leonard living with one of my and Anna's relatives, on the London Electoral Register in 1951.  I was told by one of his daughters, now deceased, that  he married again at some point but not proven anthing else as yet.  I have names of some of Leonard's relatives but don't know if they are siblings or wives of his siblings.

The address given is that at which he was staying during the qualifying period.

I have been married twice, and neither time did I use my permanent address! ::)

You say he was married in Feb 1936 aged 22, but I can't find a birth that fits, nor the 1940 ish death of an Anna Johnson,or a March 36 marriage on Free BMD.

I think I need a coffee  ;D

I'm struggling as well, the birth of the child mentioned in the other thread gives MMN Thorpe but even with that I can't find anything that ties up with the Christian names given.
