I can see on the 1911 census a family living in Denaby Main Conisbrough who would fit to be Leonard's parents that would lead to a possible birth for Leonard in 1915, and then a possible death for him in St Pancras in the 1970s.

Problem is with a name like Johnson you need certificates.

Thanks for that info re 1911 Census  I've been struggling to find his father..so many Johnsons to review.  I found that Death Reg last night and it does seem a possibility.

If you look at the family I found in 1911 they did not come from Yorkshire, it does give possible siblings for Leonard.

However I cannot find Anna Thorpe or Anna Johnson on the 1939 Register..She not living with her mother either.

Did Ann/Anna have a baby/or was poorly just after Sept 1939,if so maybe she was in a hospital ,which may only have her listed by her initials

I've found him on the 1939 Register which gives his DOB as 06 Jun 1915 at 34 Nelson Street , Hampstead..No wife though. But..1939 their son Sam was born at that address.  Same hand writting on Birth Certificate as on 1939 Register and to me it looks like 34 Kelson St.

However I cannot find Anna Thorpe or Anna Johnson on the 1939 Register..She not living with her mother either.

Have you looked at the actual image? You will see that there are 2 people living there.
The 2nd chap is number 3 on the schedule. I think Anna was living there but got missed off the summary book.

yes I did look at the actual image.  Maybe she was in Hospital giving birth!  I don't know what date the 1939 Register was actually taken, do you?

29th Sept 1939, do you see what I mean about the chap being number 3 and not number 2.
The second person has been missed off.

Yes that was the family I found.

Leonard's birth was registered in Rotherham district, maybe he was born in hospital rather than at home.

I would try and see if there were any more children born after the 1911 census as well as Leonard and then see if you can follow his sisters through as they would be the ideal candidates to take his children on.
